Super Netball to start on August 1, with plans for full 60-game season fixture

Super Netball will begin on August 1 and is committed to a full 60-game season, the league revealed on Sunday.

Training will begin on Monday (June 1) after getting the go-ahead under ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

A fixture has yet to be finalised, but spans 14 regular-season rounds plus three weeks for finals. That would likely see the grand final played on November 22.

"We're thrilled that a season start date has been locked away, now all our stakeholders have a date to work towards and fans can start to get excited for the start of the season," Super Netball chief executive Chris Symington said in a statement.

"We are planning to play out a full home and away season, and we are confident that our start date gives us the best opportunity to achieve that. "

Netball has trailed the NRL and AFL in resuming activity amid the coronavirus pandemic, having originally been scheduled to begin on May 2. A period of uncertainty has now ended for the players.

They will continue to be paid for 12 hours of training per week, per the current agreement, with the normal 23 hours resuming in late June when pre-season escalates.

"Our guiding principles throughout this process have never changed, those being the health and wellbeing of the community alongside the financial viability of our sport," Symington said.

"There has been a collective commitment to those principles from the whole system including players, teams, partners and broadcasters and we will continue to take that approach as we look to get our season underway.

"I would like to thank our dedicated members and fans who have stuck by their teams and the sport through an incredibly challenging period. We look forward to showcasing our world class athletes once again from August 1."
