The racing movie that makes a near perfect lap

It's a big day in movies – there are a few out this week, including one with some of the biggest stars in the world; Ford V Ferrari, which makes a near perfect lap.

Ford V Ferrari

Let's go back to the early 60s when Ferrari reigned supreme on the racetrack, and Henry Ford II decided his car company needed to add a bit of sizzle and speed had a crack at buying the all-conquering Ferrari.

(Today)

When the deal fell through, Ford commissioned ground-breaking car designer Carroll Shelby, played by Matt Damon, to build a race car.

Damon is perfectly cast as Shelby, who believes he has the driver to make the most of his car at the 24-hour Le Mans race; Englishman Ken Miles, played by Christian Bale.

Bale is incredible. He just disappears into his characters. The story is gripping, as these two battle the might of Ferrari, the physics of speed and the corporate politics of Ford.

But the racing action is phenomenal and the attention to detail, with all the 60s cars most impressive.

If you don't know the historical details I suggest you keep it that way. It's a cracking yarn that will have you on the edge of your seat for all 150 minutes. It's called Ford v Ferrari, so strap yourself in.

Charlie's Angels

Also out today is the latest incarnation of Charlie's Angels written and directed by Elizabeth Banks, who also stars as a new look Bosley.

It's action stations for our new look angels – Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott, who you will remember as princess Jasmine.

This time around however, it's no fairytale as our fearless angels find themselves up against a devilish plot to use some new technology to take power off the planet.

There are some nods to previous angels as the whole shebang heads in new directions with multiple Bosleys running multiple angels everywhere. There is plenty of action, lots of laughs and oodles of glamour and basically it's an inoffensive couple of hours of fun.
