Born in Sikeston, Missouri in 1931, Scott made her bid for fame by heading to New York in the early 1950s, landing on Broadway before her TV roles.

Making her on screen debut in 1956, Scott worked consistently in the 50 years that followed. Starring in 102 roles, the actress starred as sister of David Janssen in The Fugitive, and played Walter Matthau's wife in Charley Varrick.

Scott married her husband Gene Lasser in 1958, after meeting on the set of Macabre. He was working as a TV writer and press agent at the time.

Joining the cast of The Fugitive in 1964, she remained on the show for three years as Donna Kimble Taft. In 1974, the star appeared on the TV series Planet Of The Apes and later went on to have guest appearances in Starsky and Hutch, Barnaby Jones, CHiPs and LA Law.

"I wanted to play all different characters. And I got to do that," she said in a 2016 interview. "Once I'd be the good girl and once I'd be the bad girl… One director, Leo Penn — who is Sean Penn's father — would call me for anything. We had worked together when we were kids in New York, and he was fabulous.

"Sometimes, there would be a part that people didn't think I could do. And Leo would say, 'Well, it's the last minute and I don't have time to mess around meeting actors I don't know. I want Jacqueline.' He'd push me for the part — and the producers would be happy he did."

Scott is survived by son Andrew, granddaughters Arianna and Valerie, and daughter-in-law Sue.
